December 14th Dinner With Friends On The Way to Visit Family

On the 14th we begin our journey to Tianging. On the way we stop in Beijing.

When we arrive in Beijing we have lunch. I don't have many pictures of the place we had lunch at, but the Korean BBQ we had was amazing. The pictures I do have of are the bathroom... sorry!

Just in case I didn't take enough pictures of bathrooms in China.

Eventually we checked into our hotel.

Some philodendrons I saw near the entrance.

We took a nap/shower in our newly found hotel, and I found another broken shower head.

I found another broken shower head.

That night we went on quite a long walk to the restaurant where we would meet with our parent's friends. It's primarily a sea food restaurant, and I was quite nervous as it was a very fancy setting and I didn't want to do anything too stupid... :)

Let's say the seafood is "very fresh"...

We had a few different kinds of desert.

Here you can see one in the shape of a dog.
Got your nose...
Of course, they have to have options for foreigners...
Here is some of the cake we tried.

There was a large selection of Baijiu. The blue bottle is my favorite - and it's quite strong.

It's spicy, and burns due to the strong alcohol content (usually over 40%).

Baijui, with over 40% alcohol content.

On the way out of the restaurant we walked by this tree, which was festively lit. It was around Christmas at this time, so you do see "Christmas lights" in a few places in China.

Since the trip was over six months ago from time of writing I don't quite remember all the family discussion, but we had a nice time. The family friends had an orange Scion IQ that they left in. Since they are retired business people I was surprised to see the IQ as I was expecting a larger car (like a van, or an SUV).

That concludes the 14th! Well, of course we had to walk the two kilometers back to the hotel... :)
