December 25th - Chengdu to Beijing - Tourist Street
On the 25th we would leave Chengdu by plane and end up Beijing.
But before that, we have to leave Chengdu. To do this, we felt like we had to get Guoqui (guac-way) one last time.
We sought out some Chengdu Guoqui for the last time. We found this place, which makes the food right in the dining area - you can see the cooking table in the bottom right.
So, we made our way to the airport. Where we found more food! :)
The Chengdu airport happened to have soup buns!
One thing I found interesting were these "fiber" soda drinks.
Once landed in Beijing, we took a taxi into the city. On the way we could see the flags of Japan and China placed next to each other on the highway. This was to signify a local meeting of some representatives from each country, which happened a couple of days before.
During my entire time in China, I saw a lot less clothing with weird usage of English than I expected. However, this day was one of those days.
Or maybe this bag isn't your style, and you want an INFLATABLE AIR STATION?
Anyway, in Beijing we wanted to do something easy, so we went to explore the tourist-y areas.
On the way we found a Huawei demo tent. I say tent as it was literally a big tent setup in the middle of the street, complete with rooms and hallways lined with different demonstrations.
This was also the first time I saw a demonstration of 5G data speeds.
We also played some VR games and such, but no videos of that.
As night fell, you can see how many shops are open at night.
We started making our way to the Nan Luo Gu Xiang (南锣鼓巷) street for food and tourist things.
For some reason this place had quite a magical air about it. It might just be that I was being a tourist, but it was still fascinating.
What do you do when you're being a tourist. We try food. In this case, a lot of it.
We found these soup buns which were absolutely amazing. Here are a couple videos of the atmosphere, too.
I believe it was this shop which had some interesting characters on the wall.
Since it was around Christmas, and since this street sells everything, you can even buy Chinese-themed Christmas decorations.
One thing absolutely have to talk about are the bags that some of these shops use. For example.
Or...
A night in Beijing wouldn't be complete without Chinese Square Dancing.
... and to close the 25th, one comfy boi.
